Materials

For over 30 years, PRP Manufacturing has had extensive knowledge, technical expertise, and experience in elastomeric and other soft materials, stocking and supplying a wide range rubber, sponge, foam, plastic, fiber, and other very advanced and specialised substrates.

Our material supply chain is sourced both nationally and overseas, and we constantly strive to find material solutions to suit a wide range of applications that require unique properties or technical requirements. Our engineering team can assist in-house with material selection, or aid in suggesting a suitable material for your project or application.

Rubber

Rubber is available in many different compounds.

PRP Manufacturing stocks varieties of EPDM, Neoprene, Nitrile, Natural, Silicone, Butyl and Viton, and all these have unique properties that provide an ideal solution for a given application. PRP uses rubber for a wide range of products, including custom gaskets, flange gaskets, and rubber seals.

Sponge

Sponge rubber varieties exhibit a softer more compressible feel compared to standard rubber due to the various blowing agents used during the formation process.

Sponges generally have excellent compressibility and recovery, but can be susceptible to tearing and impact absorption due to their lower hardness and tensile strengths.

Foam

High-density foam-based materials are a low-cost alternative to sponge rubber where insulation and support is needed without the need for a rubber-based compound.

Polyethylene foam (PE) and ethylene-vinyl acetate foam (EVA) are the most common foam varieties. These foams are available in a range of densities, thicknesses, colours and sizes and are most commonly used for case inserts, protection, insulation, gaskets and seals.

PRP also works with polyurethanes, polyether, polyesters are more.

Plastic

Plastic is a polymer-based product, available in a range of synthetic or semi-synthetic varieties. PRP has the ability to machine and fabricate plastic using our CNC flatbed cutting technology.

PRP fabricates out of a wide range of plastics including acrylic, polycarbonate, polypropylene, HIPS, acetal, nylon, HDPE, UHMWPE and more.

Fiber

Fiber gasket material is made up of non-asbestos fiber mixed with a rubber binder. The product is rolled and vulanised, and is available in many different grades with specific characteristics. Unlike rubber-only gasket materials, fiber sheet has the advantages of being able to cope with higher temperatures, higher pressures, and also tolerate differing chemical requirements.

PRP for years has been at the forefront of providing a complete set of sealing solutions for gasket industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, water, sewage and defence. PRP stocks a comprehensive range of gasket materials such as compressed non-asbestos fibre, graphite, PTFE (Teflon) and our metallic and semi-metallic range.

Composites

Composite varieties encompass a wide range of materials, each designed to meet specific performance requirements in various applications. Common types of composites include

  • Carbon fiber-reinforced composites
  • Glass fiber-reinforced composites
  • Kevlar-reinforced composites
  • Natural fiber composites

PRP uses 3-axis and 5-axis capability to cut and fabricate composite sheet into a wide range of different products.

Metal

Metals are a broad category of elements known for their distinctive properties, such as high electrical and thermal conductivity, malleability, ductility, and potentially shiny appearance. Some common metal varieties include aluminum, copper, steel, and titanium, each with unique properties that make them suitable for various industrial applications.

Recent projects have seen the following:

  • Waterjet and milling of aluminum sheet and plate
  • Waterjet cutting of unique bespoke copper components to tight tolerancing
